The actor's troubles may have begun as early as 2011 when they were arrested for possession of marijuana. It was a minor incident that led to citations for disorderly conduct, but by 2020, things had taken a turn for the worse. In April of that year, a video went viral online showing Miller in a physical altercation with a woman outside a bar in Iceland.

By the spring of 2022, Miller had landed themself in legal trouble for disorderly conduct and harassment. Two residents of Hilo, Hawaii, filed for a restraining order against them, claiming they had broken into their home and harassed them. The charges were later dropped, but the beleaguered actor continued to rack up accusations.

In the statement, Miller said they had "gone through a time of intense crisis" and "now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment." They went on to apologize to those they had "alarmed and upset" with past behaviors. They wrapped up the statement by saying they were "committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in (my) life."

When Miller began to have personal and legal problems, their future with DC Comics may have hit the rocks. According to CinemaBlend, studio executives began to get skittish about the release of The Flash, given the bad press that Miller had attracted.

Media reports placed Miller on the studio lot with their agent for a meeting with executives, which likely had much to do with the actor's decision to seek treatment. Miller was allegedly apologetic during the meeting and expressed their support for keeping the movie to its original release date. Even if concern for their career is what motivated them, their future looks clearer and brighter than it has in several years.
